Notable Fights This Weekend
8-17-06

Friday, August 18
FOX Sports Net
Evander Holyfield (38-8-2) vs. Jeremy Bates (21-11-1)
“The Real Deal” is 2-4-1 in his last 7 and appears to be out of touch with reality.  Fox Sports indulges
him here with a bout against Bates who has a recent loss to Zack Page (9-4).

ESPN2
Vassiliy Jirov (36-3-1) vs. James Northey (11-1)
Jirov continues his campaign at Heavyweight here where he is 3-1-1 since his “loss” to Joe Mesi early
in ’04.  Northey is riding a 9 fight winning streak against less than lackluster competition.

Enrique Ornelas (24-2) vs. Raul Munoz (18-8)
Middleweights here.  Sam Soliman was originally scheduled to battle Ornelas in what had begun to
emerge as a bit of a manufactured grudge-match.  Munoz is a professional trial-horse who was
stopped by Soliman in March.  Look for Ornelas to take care of business here.

HBO
Saturday, August 19
Paul Williams (30-0) vs. Sharmba Mitchell (57-5)
Williams returns to HBO here as a follow-up to his impressive win over Walter Matthyse.  This time he
faces the ancient Mitchell.  Williams is a fighter on the upside of things with an assortment of decent,
recent wins (Matthyse, Sergio Rios, Terrance Cauthen).  Look for Mitchell to hang around for half the
fight before his ring years betray him.

NO U.S. TV
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (26-0-1) vs. Jermaine White (14-1)
Chavez Jr. appears to do a lot of things right and is on the fast track to a title shot.  He plucks White from
the Midwestern circuit for this match.  Chavez should take care of things in short fashion.

Jorge Paez Jr. (9-0) vs. Armand Horn (13-1)
Paez Jr. selects another Midwesterner in Horn for his latest showcase.  A step-up in class wouldn’t be
a bad idea.
