Notable Fights This Week
8-22-06

The big fight of the week, the Middleweight showdown between Arthur Abraham and Edison Miranda
has been postponed due to the fact that Abraham is suffering from “flu like symptoms”.  Miranda
thinks he’s buying time.  We’ll see when these guys go at it in September.  This is one of the slowest
weeks we’ve had in boxing in quite some time.

Friday, August 25
ESPN2
Sergio Mora (18-0) vs. Eric Regan (26-2)
Last year’s Contender Series winner Sergio Mora (4 KO) takes on the very tough and tall, Eric Regan
(17 KO).  Mora squeaked through The Contender with wins over Ishe Smith and Peter Manfredo
among others.  Regan has a decision win over Yory Boy Campas, handing Campas only his 7th pro
loss in over 90 pro fights.  Folks, this is just about all we’ve got this week.

Telemundo
Carlos Maussa (20-3) vs. Manuel Garnica (22-5)
This might actually turn out to be the most entertaining fight of the week.  These guys are 140-
pounders.  Maussa has been in there with a lot of the top guys at Junior Welterweight (Ricky Hatton
KO by 9, KO 7 Vivian Harris and TKO by 8 Miguel Cotto).  He’s very much a known commodity and a
good fighter.  Garnica meanwhile has a decision win over Gabe Ruelas and a decision loss to John
John Molina, both back in 1999.  He took 6 years off, came back to the sport late last year and was
knocked out in his last fight by an 8-0 Michel Rosales, in Monterrey, Mexico.  We’ll see.
